BCWWA Approved Backflow Testing

BCWWA Approved Backflow Testing

Plumbing systems are designed so that water flows through pipes from various sources to its intended location. If you turn on your taps and notice an odouror discoloration of water, it is likely a result of a backflow in your water system. Having a BCWWA certified company, like Archie Johnstone Plumbing & Heating, install a backflow prevention device can not only save your company money in the long run, but also ensure that your water does not become contaminated.

Two common ways that backflow can occur are:

  • Back-Siphonage which occurs when the pressure near the destination point is greater than the pressure at the supply point. As a result the water is forced backwards toward the supply point.
  • Back-Pressure occurs when there is not enough pressure to push water in the natural, intended direction.

A backflow prevention device is installed on your pipes to allow water to flow in its natural direction while preventing potentially contaminated water to flow backwards into the main water supply.
